Looking Back on a Remarkable Year—Thank You for Being Part of It!

As we come to the close of 2025, I’ve been thinking about how much has unfolded — and how deeply thankful I am to be on this literacy journey with you.
This year was full of learning, connection, and growth. Together, we explored the science behind reading and spelling, celebrated meaningful moments in classrooms and homes, and continued building a shared understanding of how the brain learns to read.

Every conversation, message, and moment of reflection reminds me why this work matters — and why this community means so much.

Speaking, Presenting, and Connecting
From engaging with the Connecticut Reading Association in February to participating in the 10th Annual Spotlight on Dyslexia virtual conference with Learning Ally in June, 2025 offered so many opportunities to share, learn, and connect. Professional learning sessions, conference conversations, and collaborative spaces made this a year of meaningful dialogue and shared purpose.

Author Visits, Podcasts, and Shared Learning
Whether in school hallways, online gatherings, podcasts, or professional learning conversations, these moments of shared discovery — exploring how reading really happens — brought so much joy and insight. Each connection reinforced the importance of clear, evidence-based literacy practices and thoughtful instruction.

Calling All Neurons! How Reading and Spelling Happen

One of the true highlights of 2025 has been watching Calling All Neurons! continue to make its way into classrooms, homes, and professional conversations. Grounded in the Science of Reading and written to be both clear and engaging, the book helps educators, parents, and caregivers understand what the brain is doing as reading and spelling develop — without oversimplifying the science.

What’s been especially meaningful is hearing from readers and respected voices in the literacy community about the book’s impact:

“In the service of helping the young discover the beauty of reading, this book embodies one of the more delightful invitations to learning: whimsy!”
— Maryanne Wolf, Ed.D.

“One of the most commendable aspects of Calling All Neurons!is its ability to simplify concepts without sacrificing depth. Through relatable characters and scenarios, the book takes children (and adult readers) on a journey through the inner workings of the brain, explaining how neurons collaborate to read, spell, and unlock the magic of reading.”
— Rebecca Tolson, Ph.D., CALT-QI

Seeing this book resonate with educators, families, and literacy leaders alike has been incredibly affirming — and a powerful reminder of how important clear, brain-based literacy information truly is.
